Exterior and Performance

The GT comes in regular and Sport edtions. The four-cylinder engine kicks out an ample 161 horsepower. That’s faster than the regular Elantra, and it feels just right with the six-speed automatic or six-speed manual. Speedier, the GT Sport has a turbo four-cylinder engine. It generates 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. Controlling the action, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission regulates power output and fuel use. Push button start lets you keep the key in your pocket or purse. To add to its racy appeal, Hyundai equips the Sport with a fully-independent multilink rear suspension. Drivers will appreciate the bigger brake rotors for more efficient stops.

Interior and Technology

With a more spacious cabin, the Elantra GT has 96.5 cu.ft. of passenger wiggle room. If you choose the Elantra GT Sport, Hyundai dresses up the look with leather seats. You’ve got more ways to control your comfort level thanks to heated front seats and a dual-zone programmable thermostat. Menu items include a panoramic sunroof to open up the cabin and ventilated seats for hot summer days. With 25 cu.ft. in the cargo hold, the GT is definitely a cargo hauler. If you fold the seats, it has more cargo area than its hatchback rivals, the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Chevy Cruze or Mazda3.

What technology do you want from your car? Hyundai provides it. There’s a new eight-inch touchscreen, an inch bigger than the predecessor. Response times are faster thanks to a better processor. Dozens of apps are available through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Blue Link can turn your smartphone into a remote starter. It lets you start your Elantra GT. You can turn on the side mirror defrosters or the rear defroster. If you have Alexa via Amazon Echo, you can access your Elantra GT and regulate the temperature for your upcoming drive.

Safety

Elantra GT models are offering to keep you and your passengers out of harm’s way. To stop you from rear-ending leader traffic, an available forward collision warning sounds. If unheeded, it can trigger an autobrake. In a similar way, a lane departure warning can trigger a lane assist, tugging to help get the GT back into the lane lines. A special blind-spot inset mirror can eliminate the blind zone or you can step up to a blind spot monitor. It shows you when traffic is too close for lane changes. To regulate speed, GT cruise control is adaptive to the traffic conditions.
